MVRTC Nov 1st picnic trial and AGM

We had the most perfect weather for our picnic trial on Sunday and the turnout was very good. We want to thank our Hunt test judges Ray Bester & Donny Hazleton and our Field Trial judges Skip Snow & Chris Bayles. Thanks to Dave Robb and Chris & Jodie Plouffe who brought food for our lunch and thanks to Arlene Comtois for helping us put the lunch together.

The AGM went well and we really appreciated the members who came out and got involved. The minutes of the AGM are below. The executive is the same with one change. Pete Wyckoff has retired from his VP position and Skip Snow has stepped in. We want to thank Jeanne Barrett for volunteering to be the WC trial secretary for next year and Jill Chalmers for volunteering to be our Hunt Test secretary.

With the economy the way it is and the resulting lower entries we will be looking at our members to help out at our trials so we don’t have to hire as many bird boys. This will be a huge cost savings for our club. We are only asking 1-2 days of your time.

Also of special note, we will not be having picnic trials in January or February for next year but will resume for March and April.

Field Trial Results:

Open:

1st – Harry Turnpenny & Tigger
2nd – Brian O’Donnell & Diver
3rd – Llyod Jarvis & Raven
4th - Terry Goad & Lucy

2009 Field Trial Report

We apologize for the belated post but we wanted to thank everyone for their help at the field trial. Everything ran very smoothly and even though there were issues we were able to handle it all because of the quality of help that we had.

Thanks for Marc Comtois for marshalling Open on Saturday and qual on Sunday; Arlene Comtois for marshalling Open on both days. Bruce Kelly & Pete Wyckoff for marshalling Open. Barry Nelson and Skip Snow for marshalling Amateur both days. Will Freeman and Chris Plouffe for marshalling Qualifying. Thanks to Jill Chalmers for running the puppy stake for us and for Barb Kroetsch for making lunches and helping with the judge's dinner and to Jerry Kroetsch for stepping in where ever he was needed.

We also want to thank the members who helped clean up the grounds for the trial, it made a big difference to the quality of tests we can put on. Chris spent 3 hours cutting the handicap and sawmill fields so the judge's could challenge the dogs. Marc & Chris also spent countless hours trimming around our water areas and roadways to clean them up. Thanks to Skip, Bruce and Brian O'Donnell for also stepping and helping. Also thanks to Marc for making our club float boards.

Our next event is our first picnic trial on November 1, 2009 when we will be having our AGM. We would love to see you all come out and participate and get involved in your club.

Congratulations to Tom Robbins & Blue for Placing 4th and to Marc & Gunner and Terry Goad & Lucy for their CM in Qualifying!

Caledonia Hunting and Angling Assoc.

Tonight we spent a little time with the kids from the Caledonia Hunting & Angling Association showing them the world of working retrievers and how they are used in helping the hunter retrieve game. We took them thru the beginning with obedience, then to drills and then marks and blinds. The kids got a kick out of hiding bumpers and watching the dogs being handled to find them. Then they asked questions and got to get close to the dogs petting them and throwing the bumpers for them. We think the dogs had as much fun as the kids :0)

July 9th WC Test

The last of our WC tests for the year was held last week and went without a hitch other than a few bee stings and some entertainment from a couple of kaykers :0) We also finally had some good weather.

Thanks again to Jill Richardson for chairing the events and to Jeanne Barrett for doing the Secretary work. Margo Neilson put on a nice dinner and Chris Plouffe, Chris Bayles and Marc Comtois did all the gunning. Thanks to our judges, Pat Van Bregt, Pete Wyckoff, Shelly Blom and Jerry Kroetsch.

MVRTC Hunt Test June 20 & 21, 2009

Another successful Hunt test has come and gone. Once again Chair Ray Bester and Secretary Shelly Blom did a great job keeping us all organized and running smoothly. We had lower entries than expected showing that the economy is hurting our sport as well. Saturday we had 16 Master, 7 Senior and 12 junior dogs. Sunday we had 10 Master, 5 Senior and 7 junior dogs.

We want to thank everyone who came out and helped we hope we can remember everyone. To Barb & Jerry Kroetsch for organizing lunches and Dave Robb who had a great time manning the BBQ and did a great job. Our Marshals, Don Hazleton, Pete Wyckoff, Ray Bester, Marc Comtois, and Jodi Plouffe.

Our judges for the weekend set up great tests and made sure they challenged our dogs and made it an fun for all the competitors (when we weren't nervous, lol).
